Getting Dressed in God’s Armor – A Prayer
I wrote prayer for myself to help me as I visualize putting on the armor of God. I don’t intend for this to become a legalistic daily ritual, but just a way to guide my thoughts on the days I “put on God’s armor.” I’m posting it here for anyone else who might find it useful.
Picture yourself putting on each of the pieces of armor. You might even personalize each piece of armor for yourself. For example, a friend of mine pictures herself putting on a navy blue camisole for the breastplate of righteousness and pumps with spiked heels for the shoes of the Gospel of peace. Ask God what your individual pieces of armor might look like. Have fun with this! 😉
In the name of Jesus Christ, I call my spirit forward to partner with the Lord Almighty, to receive the Armor of God, and wear it as I journey through this day.
Belt of Truth
I receive God’s belt of truth, which is His infallible Word and I secure His belt around my waist. His truth says I am a chosen, beloved daughter/son of the King of Kings, the Lord Most High, the One who is, was and is to come. I bless my mind to test every thought that comes against the truth of God’s Holy Word, and I cast out any thoughts that do not line up with God’s Word. I bless my spirit to refute those lies and to listen to God’s truth and receive it.
Breastplate of Righteousness
I place the Lord’s breastplate of righteousness on my shoulders and chest. I bless my spirit to receive this breastplate which will enable me to live in right relationship with God, others, and creation. I bless myself to live in a way that is pleasing to God. With this breastplate securely on my shoulders and chest, I am drawing a line in the sand that creates a boundary to help me avoid sin and to behave in ways that are acceptable to God.
Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
I receive Jesus’s shoes of the Gospel of Peace and I slip my feet into them. With these shoes, I bless my spirit to remain calm in the face of opposition or chaos. As I wear His shoes, chaos and confusion, and every oppressive spirit is held back from me. I bless my spirit to stay aligned with Jesus’s perfect peace, to call on Jesus to help me stay calm, and I bless my spirit to keep my eyes focused on Jesus. I bless my spirit to calmly assess the situation and to call on Jesus to help restore order.
The Shield of Faith
I receive the Lord’s shield of faith and I hold it up in front of me with strength from the Lord. I bless my spirit to step out in faith being confident of who I am in Christ. I bless my spirit to know that when I hold my position of faith, flaming darts of the evil one are extinguished. I bless my spirit with a faith so strong that it does not waver and it does not allow one drop of doubt to enter. I know that God is who He says He is, and that He will keep his promises, no matter how long they take to be fulfilled. I bless my spirit with the ability to hear God’s voice personally for me and I make time to sense His Presence and His communication with me through my five senses.
The Helmet of Salvation
I receive Father God’s helmet of salvation and I place it securely on my head. I bless my spirit to know that I am secure in Jesus. Through Jesus’ work on the cross, I have been saved from eternal death, I have forgiveness for all my sins, and I have the mind of Christ. I bless my spirit with awareness of the Holy Spirit’s Presence living in me, and I bless my spirit to yield/surrender to the Holy Spirit’s leading. As the helmet covers my head, I can rest secure, knowing that Jesus’ blood paid for my healing and wholeness and that by His stripes I am healed.
The Sword of the Spirit
I receive the sword of the Spirit, and I take it with my hands. I bless my spirit with an openness to read the Word of God and to receive instruction from the Holy Spirit. Lord, I welcome Your teachings and ask You to bring Scriptures to mind as I need them in my daily life. And I will use those verses of the Bible together with the sword of the Spirit to dig out enemy darts from my body. I bless my body to us the Sword in this way to remove the attacks and lies of the enemy.
Prayer
I put on the spiritual armor of prayer. I bless my spirit with the gift of communicating with Father God, Jesus His only begotten Son, and with Holy Spirit. As one of His chosen ones, I bless my spirit with knowing that I hear the Lord’s voice clearly and I sense Him with my five senses.
Thank you, Father God for loving us so much that You offer us Your very own armor so that we can rely on Your strength in all that we do.
