Be a Light in the Darkness – A Call to Action

Blessing Others – A Call to Action

Dear Friends and Prayer Warriors,

When I see violent acts posted on Facebook with no call for prayer and no comforting words, it feels like that’s pouring gasoline on the fire, which is escalating the problem. But there’s a better way.

No matter how you voted or didn’t vote, I’m appealing to you to reach out to people in your in your social media circles, especially those who are troubled, fearful or upset by what’s happening. In our own way and with our own unique gifts, let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need. Let’s BE the light of the world that Jesus says we are. Be a friend. Comfort. Show the LOVE of Jesus, not retaliation.

Now more than ever, we need to extend a loving hand to those in need, one person at a time. Now more than ever, we need to be agents of peace, forgiveness, and grace to each other. Isn’t that what we’re called to do as followers of Jesus?

sidelines
We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines anymore. Being a Christian is not a spectator sport. We are called to be disciples of all nations, one person at a time. I can’t think of a better time to do this than now.

If now now, then when.
If not me and you,
Right now, it’s time for us to do something!
– Matthew West

I’m praying for wisdom for how we should respond

to each individual. With a simple prayer?

In a private message?

If you feel comfortable, write a short prayer and/or blessing to social media posts that depict fear, anger, violence, criticisms, etc. If you’d rather just pray privately without posting your prayer, that’s great too. And effective. It’s always good to pray/bless the opposite of what’s posted. For example, if the post depicts fear, pray a blessing of peace and trust. If it shows someone getting beaten up, pray for healing and protection.

Love Your Enemies
Let’s do our part to bless every troubled post with the peace and love of Christ. Also remember to bless/pray for the  perpetrators as well as for the victims. (This goes for posts that you post as well as ones that others post.)

But I say to you,
love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you”
(Matthew 5:44)

A blessing is… a prayer asking for God’s favor or protection. You can try a simple blessing like, “I bless you with the Spirit of Peace.” Feel free to make up your own, or copy and paste one of these Bible verses:

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:14)

I pray that the God may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. (Ephesians 1:17)

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. (Ephesians 1:18-19)

I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. (Ephesians 3:16)

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:7b)

I [pray for] you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. (1 Corinthians 1:10)

There are tons more blessings in the Bible.

Prayer works!

Trust that God is working, whether you see an answer or not.

Let your light shine!
